Took it in for service under warranty several times, never really resolved the problem and ended up getting rid of it. Pull away some of the cotton and make a miniature mop. Soak the mop in pure alcohol or tape head cleaner. Do not use "rubbing" alcohol. It must be pure. Gently drag the mop back and forth over the lens a few times, being careful not to apply pressure.
